Trying to sleep

I don't know why this man was sleeping in his car in the middle of the afternoon in the parking lot next to Prospect Lake on a dreary day in February.

The man's car carried North Dakota plates and, in the backseat was a local phone book. It seemed to be a sign of the times. Had he come to Colorado Springs in search of work? It was something I imagined that he did. Then, I was reminded of a news story in the paper recently. The article said that people are coming to Colorado in hopes of better opportunities but at the same time, there is little if any work for all of these newcomers.

I stayed only a moment to photograph this scene and then I moved on. It seems like an all too familiar scene these days and one that is often overlooked.
