Apparently, nothing comes easy to singer Jeremy Enigk, who is currently prepping the fall release of his sophomore solo effort, World Waits.

"It's been a crazy ride," says the former Sunny Day Real Estate frontman and current The Fire Theft singer.

The Seattle would-be icon has had over a decade of uncertainty in relative obscurity. To understand his journey, you must travel back to Sunny Day Real Estate, a mid-'90s Sub Pop band that should have taken over the alternative rock world but instead decided to self-implode.

During its first of two breakups, band members William Goldsmith and Nate Mendel joined the Foo Fighters, while Enigk recorded his critically acclaimed 1996 solo debut Return of the Frog Queen.

It would be another decade he formed The Fire Theft with his aforementioned SDRE bandmates in 2003 before Enigk would return to his solo ways with World Waits, a decidedly more pop-based album than Return.

His summer tour, which begins in Denver, is designed to reintroduce him to the music world. Enigk admits the fear of being forgotten dominates his thoughts. He even worried that is music would be dismissed at a recent Seattle show for family and friends.

"My biggest concern is people would be like, "What the hell is this?' and "This isn't any good,'" Enigk says. "Not clap, not respond and start yawning.

"If you can't convince your friends," Enigk adds, "how are you going to convince the world?"
