Victor Steampunk Festival

When: Feb. 15-17 2013

It lacks lace and leather, cool gadgets and Victorian flair, but Fritz Lang's 1927 film Metropolis is considered to be the earliest precursor of the steampunk genre. It shares its highly stylistic appeal and retro-futuristic technology, though it hardly has that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen feel. Nonetheless, you can watch the film (in its original German) at tinyurl.com/ayf7vdu, then get your more familiar Wells-Lovecraft-whathaveyou fill at the Victor Steampunk Festival, a packed weekend — starting today — of art shows, performances, a Nikola Tesla living history talk, a broomball game, gold mine tours and more. Find the whole schedule online at victorcolorado.com/events.htm. — Edie Adelstein
