Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that a key provision of 1996’s Defense of Marriage Act — denying federal benefits to same-sex couples — was unconstitutional. However, it still left states in control of who can marry.

What are your thoughts on DOMA? I'm glad that it was overturned.
What do you think that the reversal means for the future? I believe we are progressing as a society.
How long do you think it will take Colorado to legalize gay marriage? Unfortunately, I think it will be one of the last states except the South, due to our, you know, military and religious people here.
What are your thoughts on gay marriage affecting the marriage of heterosexual couples? I don't think it will at all. I think it will benefit heterosexual couples.

What are your thoughts on DOMA being overturned? I think that the government has a hard time dividing the line between upholding moral law and common law, meaning that it's unconstitutional if they justify that for people. They should be able to govern the people equally.
What do you think this ruling means for the future? I believe that the government should allow the freedoms, the basic freedoms, to continue, but I believe that there still needs to be law.
How long do you think it will take for Colorado to legalize gay marriage? Probably very shortly. There tends to be a liberal base here.
Do you support civil unions? It's a difficult question. I believe that anybody should be free to love who they want to. I do profess that it's unnatural in the natural world, but between the human hearts that they need to be respected.
What are your thoughts on gay marriage affecting marriage of heterosexual couples? I think I like traditional marriage. I believe it has a really profound, well-based nature. And I think civil unions are — I really don't know how to answer that question.

What are your thoughts on DOMA? Anybody that wants to get married should be able to get married.
How long do you think it will take for Colorado to legalize gay marriage? Hopefully as soon as possible. I have no idea.
What are your thoughts on gay marriage affecting or not affecting the marriage of heterosexual couples? I think heterosexual couples need to get over it.
Do you think it's appropriate for the Supreme Court to be able to make executive decisions over states? No, that is not part of the Constitution.
