Art hounds will be on the prowl this weekend, roaming from gallery to gallery to attend openings. Up on the Austin Bluffs hill at CU-Colorado Springs, curator Gerry Riggs introduces Open Press: A 15-Year Retrospective featuring some 200 works by 30 artists who have practiced the art of fine print making at Denver-based Open Press Ltd. studio and gallery. Works by master printer Mark Lunning and co-founder Dale Chisman will be included in the show.
It's a who's who of regional talent at downtown Bryan & Scott's Nine Artists, featuring Sean O'Meallie's whimsical and lyrical painted wood sculpture, Carol Dass' soft-edged black-and-white photography of the human form, Jean Gumpper's large woodblock prints of the natural landscape, painted steel sculpture by Pard Morrison, acrylics by Betty Ross, Barbara Sparks' Southwestern landscape photography, Laurel Swab's oil paintings and mixed media sculpture, Rita Zimmerman's oil portraits, and Mary Armour's naive oil paintings of animals.
And if you haven't gotten your fill on Friday night, on Saturday afternoon head over to the Warehouse Gallery for the opening of Red Hot & Cool, an exhibit of oil paintings by Holly Parker and Kelly Cool.
