Who's going to drive you home?

Street Smarts

The business landscape is quickly changing, but it's hard to imagine an American city without taxis.

When's the last time you took a taxi? It was last weekend after a Rockies game, back to our hotel.

What was the driver like? He was funny. He turned up the music and made the taxi like a little party bus. He was having fun, too.

Do you think you could drive a cab? Yes. I think I'd like it because I like driving and I like meeting people. I've actually considered it.

What's the weirdest taxi experience you've ever had? My friends and I take taxis fairly often, and I've never had a bad experience. It seems like they drive a little crazy sometimes, but that's what they do for a living.

What do you know about Uber or Lyft? I've heard of them, and I've looked into it. I think it's a cool idea, as long as there are background checks.

Do you think you could drive a cab? Probably not. I'm not a huge people person, and sometimes you have to drive people who are super drunk. That can be annoying.

What's the weirdest taxi story you've heard? Most of the weirdest stuff I've heard about is really inappropriate, like people doing stuff in the back seat. Or it's about people puking, and then the driver has to clean it up.

What do you know about Uber or Lyft, the new competition for the taxi business? I've heard of them — it's just getting a ride from regular people.

Would you hesitate to use a service like that? No. I guess you'd run the same risk as any other thing. Creepy people are everywhere.

When's the last time you took a taxi? About three months ago. My friend took my car, and I had to get home.

What was the driver like? He was good, and a nice guy. It wasn't too expensive and it was a nice cab.

Do you think you could drive a cab? Yeah, I could do that. I think they make decent money and it would be a new experience.

What's the weirdest taxi experience you've had? I was in a cab in Phoenix a few years ago, and the driver was going about 120 on the freeway, and weaving in and out of traffic. I was scared; I thought I was going to die.

What's the best-ever book, show or movie featuring cab life? The movie Rush Hour. That was great; really funny.
