Dear Mr. Mason:
I was intrigued by your comments in last week's Gazette regarding the "What Would Jesus Drive?" campaign against Sport Utility Vehicles.
Apparently, you're of the opinion that Jesus would trust the federal government's fuel efficiency standards. Despite daydreaming through most of my ecclesiastical education, I never recall being taught that the Son of God was a dupe.
As Jesus says in his very own musical Jesus Christ Superstar (side 1, track 2): "My temple should be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves. Get out! Get out!"
It doesn't take a bomb hurling Bolshevik to note the auto industry's influence in the government's decision to classify SUVs as "light trucks." As you are likely aware, such a classification permits these vehicles to adhere to less stringent efficiency standards than passenger vehicles.
Seeing as how you're in the unique position of occupying a prominent role in the Jesus industry with a background at General Motors, perhaps you can explain why our savior would not be concerned with the environmental hazards posed by SUVs.
