Ever wish you could take in some dance, visual art, music, poetry and all variations thereof all at once? No, it's not a musical, it's Art Splash -- a benefit show for the fledgling, West Side arts organization Fusion Pointe that will include just about every manifestation of the arts you can cram onto one stage.

"I wanted to get some recognition for the artists who might not have a gallery to put their art in," said organizer Gwin Coleman of Funktion Flux Productions. "Attending drumming classes at Fusion Pointe inspired me to put a call out to local artists and find a community," she said.

Coleman, who moved to Colorado Springs from Indianapolis six months ago, thought the event would be a great way to dive head first into the arts scene while also lending a helping hand to local artists.

The event begins with an artists' reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., followed by Fusion Pointe's resident company GASP High Altitude Dance Project performing Brazilian capoeira, belly dancing and other performances. Poets will include local Kevin Rorke (from the Poetry Slam Inc. 2003 national team for Colorado) as well as Denver poets Greg Stant and Wang Zen.

There will also be paintings and drawings by local artists John Sherman, Sara Adrian, Ronnie White and others. Musicians include regional acts Benjamin Pratt on acoustic guitar, Plasticactus, 40% Eric, Open Letter, and a hip-hop supergroup made up of Idiolectic Conception, Distrakt, Kove One, Nasty Habits, and many more. It's like Wu Tang Clan in Colorado Springs!

Fusion Pointe, at the corner of West Pikes Peak Avenue and 23rd Street, was originally conceived of as a center for classical and contemporary dance, but is currently trying to expand their focus to become a more integrated arts center. In addition to offering a full dance curriculum, the center also offers classes in everything from music to yoga, and plans to launch a visual arts program.
