Boondoggle
Tony’s, 211 N. Tejon St.
Saturday, Sept. 25, 10 p.m.
No cover, 228-6566

A boondoggle, is by definition, "an unnecessary or wasteful project or activity," as well as the creation of "a tool or useful object out of cast off items such as a quilt." Read into that what you will, for the fly folks of Boondoggle just liked the name because "the word kinda rolls off your tongue like a drunken hick rolling out of a hammock."

To celebrate the release of their latest album, Barfly, the quintet will be playing at downtown's favorite Packer haven, Tony's, on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 10 p.m. The CD is chock full of catchy rock and funk hooks, a snazzy horn section, and singer Marni Green's slinky vocals. "Evolution" is an exercise in good ol' rock 'n' roll, and "Stalking Jason Lee" is, well, about exactly that. "Blessings" wanders into a Spanish groove, while "Potential Barfly" will undoubtedly prove to be the perfect soundtrack to a night well spent at Tony's.
