Re: “IQ: Tuck in, take out

Hi gregR,

Thanks for writing. "IQ" is now called "Street Smarts" but we haven't yet moved the new material over. To access the latest "Street Smarts," click "Columns" in the navigation bar and then look for the fourth link down from the top. We'll update it accordingly and thanks for the heads-up.

Re: “IQ: Tuck in, take out

What's the deal with the on-line version of IQ? This hasn't been updated in several weeks, but the printed version has.

Re: “IQ: Medicated mystery

judge much oneida? I've used it for bad cramps and for headaches and in fact, have found it to be the only thing I have ever used that actually helped with migraines. I know it may be hard for someone so narrow minded to believe, but I have never been stoned around my employer, nor have i ever been "so stoned [i] just didn't care." I'll take marijuana over your doc's opiate-derived prescriptions any day, thankyouverymuch.

Re: “IQ: Medicated mystery

I have painful monthly cramps too and have managed to do quite well without marijuana, thankyouverymuch. Sure marijuana helped that chick...she was so stoned she just didn't care. (Of course, her employer was probably less than thrilled). Give me a freakin' break! Next up on the excuse list?: "Doc, I have a really bad headache...."

Re: “IQ: A koan for moderns

Legalizing the both "manufacture", home growing, and "responsible use" of marijuana would take much profit out of both mob and Mexican drug-cartel profits. It would also enhance the level of happiness in our society in general, because so many of us would be happier, despite these difficult times.

I do not encourage anybody to try pot or to use it routinely. But I have done so and been able to do respectable academic work while "high". My view is that there are too many prejudices going unchallenged in discussions of relevant issues, but I hope that "truth will out". We all need to exercise dispassionate reason in these regards.

Re: “IQ: A koan for moderns

Q: Should adults be put in jail over marijuana, assuming that minors, property damage, and driving aren't involved?

Let's not beat around the bush any longer: Jail is what we're really talking about here. You're either for locking up marijuana producers/consumers, in jail, or against it.

Re: “IQ: Over the hill?

"Earth Day"..We live in a city that felt public transportation really wasn't all that important, keeping the parks clean, also not very important, maintain our roads, not a priority. I wish I could quote the actual stats., though I DO CLEARLY remember that a surprisingly large portion of our voting district, thought global warming was "junk science", and, "politically" motivated! When faced with people, (fundamentalists) who argue earth is six thousand years old, and, don't worry about future damage to our planet, as they await the "Rapture"...AND, ASENTION to heaven.
These folks are too far gone to EVER reach!

Re: “IQ: Educating for life

danfrey...STUPIDITTY SHOULD BE PAINFUL!!! If ignorance is bliss, well these "home schooled" kid's will reign as the "children of bliss"..Christian based schooling, is truly the "mushroom method" of education! LMFAO!!(@danfrey) and, wishing your children well in a world you failed to prepare them for! DUH!

Re: “IQ: Educating for life

parents can't be relied on to do it

This statement sums up the problem. It is not the business of the school, city, state, or federal government to try to fill in the blanks that I choose in social education of my children. Many parents don't want religious social values taught at school, but they would like to force secular social values on the children of people who choose to teach abstinence.

These types of attitudes leave many parents with no choice but to home school.

Re: “IQ: Booze views

I find it so odd that an "informed" paper, like the Indi., would condone any comparasson of pot, and, alcohol.. I mean, REALLY?? Attempting to be amusing, in a venue that usually stimulates, informes, and, yes, makes me scratch my head now, and, then!
Asking bartenders about party habits, drinks, and, such, seems so shallow! When asked about the real issues, I usually see one, or, two thought provolking responses.."party habits"..NOT SO PERTENANT..

Re: “IQ: Mansion on the hill

I find it interesting that the responses of Ms. LeBrasse avoid giving any clear answer to the question asked. That's the type of person that should be in politics. . . wait - we've already got enough of that.

Re: “IQ: Parks and recommendations

Jake- Relax, buddy. Springs has less Police per capita than the U.S. average for a city of this size- http://www.springsgov.com/Page.aspx?NavID=…

Re: “IQ: Parks and recommendations

LOVE "I.Q." even though I frequently disagree with those polled. I personally feel our city/county needs to SLASH law enforcement, and, jail budgets! My dear friend came down from Den., and, was STUNNED by the number of cops she saw. Her term was "VERY SCARRY" she also stated Very "Eastern block" like. When we have enough cops to persecute pot growers...we have WAY to many!

Re: “IQ: Live and let live?

Religion is the greatest deterrent to freedom and liberty than any other single element that effects our society and social structure. There should not be a tolerance test needed to be taken in a free society. The fact that you need to ask these questions shows that freedoms are not shared within our community. When will we all just be able to accept each other's differences and support each other in an effort to experience life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Just my 2 cents...

Re: “IQ: Shark-filled waters

Perhaps the strategy is to get the Taliban to move into Pakistaaaaan where they have a safe haven that has been bordered and approved by the Pakistaaaaani's Government. Once they (our troops) are done herding the Taliban into smaller more easily navigational area they can execute a Paki/US lead invasion there. However, I doubt they are that smart.

Re: “IQ: Kiss your deposit goodbye

Denver apts are ourtrageous what they charge for an apartment downtown. There is a two bedroom apt. $1500 per month, hallways very dark & stink to high heaven. It was rented out, 10 months later a complete wall inside fell down due to the MOLD that was growing inside it. OUTRAGEOUS. One of the tenants has been ill since living there, doctor after seeing patient stated it was from the MOLD. To see the apts you would never think it had mold, but with the hallways STINKING TO HIGH HEAVEN, tells you something. COLORADO NEEDS TO STOP ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN TO TENANTS RIGHT AWAY.

Re: “IQ: Kiss your deposit goodbye

I loved in a one bedroom apartment paying 465 a month. My apartment didn't have heat which I complained about for 4 years and had mold. I spent about 3000 dollars on wood for the fireplace so I could stay warm. They're currently taking me to court for a door they left on my doorstep and had me put in myself. Obviously me not being a professional I didn't put it in correct.

Re: “IQ: Going, going, green

I would like to be buried in a simple pine box, which I guess is biodegradable. I think this is even Biblical, given that Paul likened a person’s dying to a seed being planted, which will be raised in a new form as a resurrected body. However, I do find the Green movement to be over-assessing our effect on the planet – we flatter ourselves to think the earth is so fragile and non-robust that we could destroy it. And it’s a Pretty Big Place – the entire planet’s present population could be placed inside the state of Texas, and give each person over 1000 square feet of living space! The REST of the planet could be used for growing food. This is not practical of course, but gives a reasonable scale to understanding our terrestrial presence.
