Re: “Noted: 60 Minutes probes the city

Two comments to the USAFA Climate Survey. (1) This climate survey is most probably valid IF the 15% of the 4000+ cadets who responded were randomly selected from the total population. We don't know the sampling procedures USAFA used, so as yet all I can say is I can't draw any firm conclusions from what the academy claims, and (2) Attitude surveys such as USAFA's are notoriously weak predictors of job satisfaction, typically explaining only 15% of the total picture -- in other words, an attitude survey is better than random guessing, but just barely. Re: “Noted: Council takes on drilling regs

I would like to call for a change in the fire chief who decided the feds could take of the national forest and he would take care of the fire within city limits, resulting in 345 homes being destroyed because of misallocated resources, and of equal interest, no federal funds being given the city to cover the costs because the chief refused to come under the leadership/direction of the feds.

And what of those monies given to help fire victims...they are being dispersed in canned food and vegetables on Fridays to those who can prove they lost their homes in the fire or were evacuated...those who lost their homes don't by definition have kitchens to prepare their fresh vegetables, and those who were merely evacuated are back home with little disruption.

How much better that money be used to help families cover expenses, even upside down mortgages, than be dribbled out in canned beets and rice.

And has anyone tried to borrow money from our Obama administration over regulated banks...many of these fire victims are going to have enough insurance money to pay off mortgages, but never qualify for a loan large enough to replace a house with new code compliance.

Re: “Noted: Downtown panhandling ban?

A law against panhandling? If the bums, beggars and down town derelicts cared about laws, they probably wouldn't be living on the street in the first place.
It would be more effective to have a law against the bleeding-heart, do-gooders that give them money.
(I am being just a bit facetious. I do not support any more government interference in our lives. It is already completely out of control.)
I would, however, financially support a plan to bus them to San Francisco or Boulder.

Re: “Noted: Open-carry arrest

Excuse me but I find the statement that the city is filled with "open-carry fanatics" to be insulting to those who believe in The Bill of Rights. That Chet Helms excercises his First Amendment Rights in a most ignorant fashion while bashing The Second Amendment should show how important all of our Rights are. Chet Helms displays his lack of education quite openly while his Editors nap and Americans endure daily assaults by the lawless and by those who are paid to protect them. Freedom of Speech includes saying just about whatever you want but it is folly to use it to criticize the other Rights. It is dangerous to use it to stir up public sentiment in favor of Big Brother government which finds oppression and punishment an easy tool of manipulation. It is a slippery slope and Mr. Helms shovels more slippery stuff on it with an opinionated biased comment disguised as "news".

Re: “Noted: Downtown panhandling ban?

Typical Springs Governmental Stupidity. Ban Panhandling, but not the the entire city. Grow a set, please! Male or female! Either shit or get off the pot. All this will now do is move them to areas that are legal. Pawning your problems off onto others.

Re: “Noted: Open-carry arrest

The officers should be reprimanded, especially the one that stated "you are about to get the s**t knocked out of you" oh wait, that will never happen here!

Re: “Noted: Open-carry arrest

Hilarious, the arrest was planned, and carried out. It's a Slapp Suit, where the police target people, arrest and embarrass them, then say, "Oh, sorry."

Re: “Noted: Bach's high mileage

So, is the insinuation that 18000 miles a year is extreme? What do you think a new vehicle, inclusive of expenses would cost? Hard to believe some people will pick on any picayune thing if they don't like the politics of the person they are bitching about. Why don't you all find something important to bitch about. How about Obama and his six trillion dollar spending spree and the sixteen trillion dollar debt. How many people even comprehend what that means?

Re: “Noted: Palmer High yearbook controversy

This is completely unfair. If they had to take out any pictures it would be a picture that showed too much sexual affection. Holding hands is not showing sexual affection like lip to lip kissing is. I would understand if they took out the photo of the heterosexual couple kissing lip to lip and the lesbian couple kissing on the cheek, because kissing is potentially crossing the line of school policies of PDA. But holding hands in my mind is not crossing any lines. If they already have a heterosexual couple making out in the yearbook, then why can't they have a lesbian couple AT LEAST holding hands. People have to accept that there are homosexual couples out there whether they like it or not. It is real. You cannot change it, or erase it and pretend it never happened. It is real.

Re: “Noted: Ultra withholds drilling info

so ultra wants to inject mother earth full of poisons and carcinogens. what a way to treat your mother, and so close to mothers (earth) day. darth vadar's halliburton secrecy act makes it easier to kill your mother but not have to tell anyone about it.

Who are you talking to, Mr. smartestman? By nipping at your heels, you mean exposing your prejudices to public ridicule. You need to wipe your own butt before you claim to swat mine.

I see the poltroon pooch is still trying to nip at my heels. Seems to me the last time I had to swat his little butt and he went sniveling to his owner.
