Re: “TABOR rears its ugly head

I've known junkies, dealers & assorted social miscreants of all sorts...and none of them seethed with the evil selfishness and greed I sensed from Doug Bruce when I ran into him as he hustled for signatures on the original petition that gave us TABOR.
May he and his acolytes enjoy that comfy berth in Hades that all their money will buy.

Re: “About a mall, Springs' political history, slumlords, and more

Lenore Fleck's "Reinventing the Mall" highlights the value of being able to see and touch what we buy. Perhaps it's time to shut down a few and consolidate the survivors into a more consumer-friendly environment. Give me the mall equivalent to a "Tattered Cover!"

Nicole Rosa's "Ditch the Dinosaur" might carry more weight if the insidious nature of lung, DNA and embryo damaging coal smoke were better publicized. Maybe if the people who are teaching our kids presented the facts we would finally have a generation that should have existed several generations ago.

We took lead out of gasoline because of its toll on children and adults yet we allow Drake to spew 14 tons of the stuff each year. Think about that the next time you drive by the "big cloud" off I-25. Holding your breath will not work.

You "pray" for god to bless your sister in law AFTER your brother and their 3 kids fly off the pass. Not asking where he was before........

Re: “You are sooo Colorado Springs if...

You think your turn signal is a decoration, so you leave it on for 20 miles

Re: “You are sooo Colorado Springs if...

You floor your car on circle while doing 10 miles under the speed and someone trys to pass yet slow down to 25 on I25 to let someone on the entrance ramp on the highway in frt of you…

I loved reading this story. I met this woman at Bear Creek and loved watching her team work with all of the goats.

Re: “TABOR rears its ugly head

The most incredible piece of writing the Indy has tossed out in at least a week and that is not praise. Doug Bruce, you say, lives in a different world than the one we live in. John, who is "we"? My world does not feature disposable income for gambling like yours John. What you say about Doug Bruce' "simplistic" formula and also say it is a "complex measure" caused me to stall right there. Of course that was after getting past your statement that Colorado's economy is "booming" in line one. "Booming"? My world is not booming it is crashing in around me. "Jobs are somewhat available" you say and I say WTF? Somewhat? City, state and federal government are given a certain amount and need to budget where it goes. Failure to do so creates problems especially when things such as "City for Champions" is even remotely entertained while tax dollars from fuel sales are not filling potholes. Then you blame Doug Bruce?!?! You lament education woes, so tell us dummies, how did it become so woeful? Taxpayers keep dropping the ball? Have you read Doug Bruce' resume? He is no slouch when it comes to education and he can think circles around you John. The vilification of Bruce is just an old trick called "redirection" so that the tax collectors might live large on money that IS NOT THEIRS to begin with and think we won't notice. The unmitigated gall... (Oh yeah, the Olympic Committee can go to hell. I wonder what kind of sweetheart deal they have enjoyed all these years)
Personally I am fed up with decades of bullshit spewed by Reps and Dems alike. Then to read columns such as yours that clearly shows you are a hand-maiden to the "elite" is just an insult and nothing more. Taxpayers and voters are the same people, it is high time you stop insinuating that we are stupid and need your guidance. On the contrary...Wages have stagnated since the 1980's while bankers manipulated the economy the middle-class evaporated (simplistic? yes but it is a start). The majority does not have the income to fund all the nonsense government dreams up. Their job is to keep up the infrastructure not let it crumble. We will have even less when we cannot drive to our jobs on rutted roads using over-taxed fuel to earn a paycheck that we cannot live on. We are about one step away from a tax revolt because we do not have the money to survive let alone put up with politicians admonitions that we are ingrates, that they know what is best and it is all Doug Bruce' fault. When our Sheriff showed that he was more concerned with protecting citizen's Rights the media went after him with a vengeance and did not let facts get in the way. It did not work out for you all and made you look even more like the supercilious fools that you are.
"City Sage"? No. Mr. Hazelhurst, your column would be more aptly named if it were called "Let Them Eat Cake".

Re: “Life on Parole

Why would inmates waive their parole hearing? There is only one reason--they know that the parole board will deny them pro forma. Colorado's parole board doesn't follow the law. They are a bunch of scammers.

Re: “TABOR rears its ugly head

Good grief, John, you apparently never tire of spreading this baloney? Since TABOR passed, 22 years ago, you've been screeching and squawking like an over-bred laying hen in a coop full of Banty roosters.

With your fellow government-can-never-do-enough-stuff-and-then-some outliers, TABOR seems to be a personal Boogie Man keeping you all up at night for more than two decades. With your constant made-up fantasies of gloom, doom and destruction (that strangely never come true) from that giant TABOR Mothra, tearing through all of Colorado.

After 22 years a sane person would recognize TABOR hasn't been the problem it's been the solution. Colorado has been one of the consistently better economies through the bad times and the good of all the states or hadn't you noticed that in the last 2 decades?

The world hasn't crumbled nor has the infrastructure fallen down. The private sector and the taxpayers have gotten a lot more 'bang for the buck' and the government isn't the giant lumbering bureaucratic monstrosity like it is in so many other states, Red and Blue alike.

Is that what ticks you off so much John? The fact that there aren't more offices to stuff full of government employees, wasting money, time and having more people standing in line for "services?" Just so folks like you and other politicos can run for office to "manage" that giant monstrosity with all your bizarre theories of government to practice on the hapless taxpayer? You may need to find a new job, John. Nobody's buying it.

Re: “TABOR rears its ugly head

TABOR is a prescription to destroy government, nothing more. We not only need to get rid of it, more importantly we need change the state's constitution to get rid of "government by referendum" which is the real problem. Get rid of the referendum aspect and we get rid of garbage like "personhood" amendments, etc.
