Re: “District looking for answers after failure of bond, MLO

The school capital construction only applies to building a new building as I have understood it. this does nothing for the needs of d11 that already has too many schools. most school districts get nothing from the pot fund as it currently stands.

Re: “Colorado Springs Forward's wealthy and connected hope to steer the city into prosperous waters

How comforting it is to know that a handful of wealthy patrons are looking after me and the city in which I live - even going so far as to provide me with a ready-made palette of candidates for office. Not.
One can only hope that, being fully accustomed to getting their own way, the members of CSF and like-minded other organizations will find at least one issue upon which there is hearty disagreement. One further hopes that each puts itself out-of-commission while doing battle to gain the upper hand.
The more I learn about the inner-workings of Colorado Springs, the less I want to live here.

Re: “Water contamination, the election, bigotry, and more

Under President Obama (who I voted for twice) we've sold about $110 billion of military weaponry (by far the most in our 70+ year alliance with the country) to Saudi Arabia- the closest nation the world has to being a true Caliphate. We toppled foriegn and soveriegn governments for selective economic interests, and groups like ISIS have filled the void of leadership.
It would have been great to not have Trump in the White House. When it became apparent that the DNC had corrupted the primary process (this has since been verified, even though we all really knew all along), effectively stealing the nomination from Bernie- where was the outrage? Instead, liberals and democrats got in line, and allowed the corruption of our democracy. Many liberals even defended it, saying HRC's been in politics so long, of course she would do corrupt things and we should grow up and vote for her anyways.
Nixon resigned for far less___

So what happened? I would say that we didn't deserve the presidency this go around. Thank god we didn't win it- imagine the precedent that would set? Forever submitting to the most corrupt politician with the ignorant and enabling consent that "politicians are just corrupt, we deal".

Again, to all the pseudo-liberals out there who saw the corruption of our system and encouraged all of us to roll over to it- this is on you.

As a veteran of the debacle in Iraq- take my word on it that our indiscriminate bombing of other nations- the 65 million refugees of the world which we largely caused displacement for -(highest # since the United Nations High Commission on Refugees started counting shortly after WW2)----- is the most important issue we need to address as a nation- not any of our chosen social causes, nothing beats this issue people.

If you vote for women's rights at home, for marijuana rights at home, for LGBT rights at home, but vote for politicians pledging support to Saudi Arabia, which actively practices sharia law and STONES TO DEATH- in the public arena, members of the aforementioned groups---- you really, really need to re-evaluate your activity in political processes.

The saddest thing is that Bernie would have won- and he didn't because he would have been a world peace president. We are going to keep killing innocents all over the world, regardless of who we try to elect. We will continue to topple soveriegn governments for select economic interests in deals made far from the public eye, and The coalescence of the pseudo-liberals to the agenda of the DNC, even though we all smell a rat- is the cause of us living in a tyrannical state where we have no Power to change anything.

Re: “POPs ballot measure in limbo

So sad to see how big money and politicians that are in their back pocket operate. We vote our mayor in but he won't allow the people to vote on a ridicules land swap that the majority of Colorado Springs doesn't want to go through! Ugg so frustrating! It's just the start of Anshutz land grab, wait till he gets rosemont reservoir and all it easements for the pipeline that goes right down Cheyenne Canyon. I'm sure it will be a great new horse trail from his new horse stables through seven fall up Cheyenne Canyon, to his new reservoir over to Emerald Fields and over to cloud camp! It will be epic ( for his guests) (all of which were once owned by Colorado Springs) He will be the proud owner of ALOT of land in c/s! I guess we can't do anything about it with a strong mayor and a very very rich man. "Cheyenne Canyon Master Plan".

Jacob Purdom - If you want to wear a helmet, wear a helmet. If you want to wrap yourself in bubble-wrap to stay "safe", go for it. For those of us that choose differently, we just want to be left alone to decide for ourselves how we want to ride. We're adults and we do not need a nanny to tell us how to live and ride.

Re: “Local students protest Trump

Selling health insurance across state lines is a favorite GOP 'reform.' Here's why it makes no sense. Los Angeles Times

To healthcare economists and other experts in the field, however, the idea is nonsense. Heres Austin Frakt of Boston University and the Department of Veterans Affairs: I never understood the appeal of this idea. It only makes sense if you dont know what youre talking about. In fact, not even insurance companies like it.…

Re: “Local students protest Trump

Miss Maggie If you think for a second all this talk of rebuilding America is going to be cheap and benefit you then your the one hunting Unicorns. Corporations have made way to much money on Globalization to allow the clock to turn back now. I think you as well as plenty others have fallen into the same Political trap. Obama care or the ACA was a starting point. The Dems went to far and the Republicans sat on there butts and did nothing allowing it to go bat shit nuts. For 8 years they havent put together anything while the others piled on a bunch of crap. Its political hogwash. What we had before didnt work, what we have now costs to much because it covers to much and whats being thrown out there is just going to make matters worse. You raise cane over Government health care. You dont want them telling you how to run your health care but yet your willing to allow a corporation do it that only cares about one thing a profit. Do you really think for a second those corporations are going to lower prices because you buy it Kansas or Texas? Its the same company in a different state just less coverage for the same price then tell you its better. All the States that didnt take the ACA are still paying those huge prices. So how do think your going to save money? What needed to be done is allow Past illness coverage, major medical and basic coverage for all. But no that wouldnt have been political. The left had to add boner pills and pregnancy pills and the right just sat there with there thumbs in there butts. Now the Insurance Corporations have made major profits both on and off the exchange and there not going to give up them profits no matter where you buy it. Watch and see.

Re: “Local students protest Trump

Obamacare is nothing but a participation trophy for the underachievers.

You can whine all you want, obamacare is hitting the middle class in the pocketbook and all those freebies Obama gave out will begin to expire this year. It will get worse now. Rates and especially penalties will skyrocket starting in 2017. It's planned that way. It was the carrot for a singlepayer system you Socialists want to badly. The same one Colorado voters said a big NO at the booth 2 weeks ago.

So keep telling yourself that Obamacare is wonderful and unicorns still exist, the rest of us will be finishing what Obama could never figure out how to do, we will be rebuilding America, because that's what real men and women do.

Re: “Local students protest Trump

I totally agree with you Rocky, a lot of promises made but not much on how they will accomplish this and I doubt the GOP will, but its up to Congress to fix ACA now after 6 years of stalling, all so the GOP could take credit away from President Obama. And who is going to feel the pain of this transition? The people of America. My roomie voted for Trump even though she worries about her daughter who is white and her boyfriend who is black and their mix-raced children, they are on Obama Care and will now suffer for her Moms vote. Stupidity to the max!!!

Re: “Should we prepare for another Waldo Canyon or Black Forest in 2017?

Should we prepare for a disaster is the question! Golly, I don't know. If one lives in a house a fire extinguisher that functions is handy. A house in a forest an extinguisher is not going to quell a fire outdoors. The USFS fire suppression practices are what causes these fires to burn so intensely and for so long. What else does the Forest Service do? They sell timber. And I saw one officer recently trying to manage a forest by searching an older vehicle in a parking lot in a small town 100 miles from a forest. I would not have known it was a ranger but his monster 4x4 truck said so on the front fender. The military style he was dressed in including the standard shaved head were all calculated affectations to intimidate.
Then R.C. Smith, El Paso County's deputy chief of operations for the Office of Emergency Management and the county recovery manager makes a comment which seems to allude to global warming. Based on his childhood memory about it snowing every Halloween in the 1960's he is scaring citizens. It does not nor did it snow every Halloween. But fear monger they must.
Here is what it looks like
Avg Oct temps in the 2000's 84 79 79 84 74 83 81 83 78 82
Avg Oct temps in the 1960's 80 78 84 83 86 79 76 84 81 81
Global warming?? For fun look at 1948/50 averages:
1948 80 77 83 79 79 80 83 82 83 80
Global warming? No.
Dismantle the USFS and then watch the forests renew.

Re: “Local students protest Trump

Heres what I see coming. Interest rates raise as promised so the housing market will take a hit. Health care overhaul so a bunch of people will be without again and prices wont change just keep going up. Piss off all the trade partners set up by both parties and the price of goods will go through the roof. Dont forget we have no manufacturing here anymore and the corporations wont bring it back if theres no money to spend on it weather or not regulations lower. They may bring there banking back but there not going to build factories again there wont be no extra money in it. Build that wall and try to redo NAFTA and guess what will happen. A bunch of our manufacturing is down there now because of NAFTA. Who is going to pay for that Wall? We will with higher prices for goods. Piss off the middle east and see what happens to oil prices. You may think we have enough of our own but Corporations are in charge of it. Piss off China and all the goods that Americans enjoy will sky rocket. Do you really think a tire, TV, tooth brushes or steal will ever be manufactured here again? Cut taxes by 30% as promised. Then how the hell do you pay for the infastructure projects that have been promised? Not to mention rebuilding our cities after they get tore up by the minorities hes pissed off. Or the hit our debt is going to take. Remember that debt all the Republicans have hollered about for the last 16 years and blamed the Dems for? Ill be the first to admit Mrs. Clinton was a horrible choice way to much baggage way to much. But I dont see how Trumps idea of taking us back to the industrial age is going to work without starving us first. Global commerce has gone on for to long and Russia is just waiting for us to fall thats why the backed him. The change that was needed is in Congress. Yes he promised that with term limits but dont forget Congress is in charge of Congress and they will never give up there own cash cow. Hold on folks this could be one hell of a ride.

Re: “America's beauty standards, helmet laws, TPP, abortion, and more

True journalism and political bias do not go together, as the latter tries to fit the facts to a narrative rather than letting the facts tell their own story.

Unfortunately, with the exception of some dining and entertainment stories this might be the only un-biased article I have read in the Independent over the last year. Your editorial staff might think that provides a balance to the other news sources in town, but frankly it just drags you down to their level.
