Still hopeful that one day this old pillar of the community opens back up,,. Soooo many of these old businesses are disappearing and the new generations will never know who they were...
Dad96, you should read all of the religious tomes and not restrict your knowledge to just one book. You will find them all remarkably similar. And read the complete works of Joseph Campbell, a theologian who taught religion at Brown University. He posits that all religions bear the same marks of humanity towards your fellow man...just in different forms.
You are entitled to your belief, Maureen, but don't try to sell it to me - I rejected organized religion completely after a base camp memorial service in Vietnam for a close friend when the Chaplain told us all that God was on our side. We are all God's creations, if you choose to believe. I take another tack - we are all as human as we choose to be, and what is in your heart is who you are. The vociferous evangelical right has been working hard to compromise the Air Force Academy for about 3 decades now, and an Air Force general advocated for a "Holy Crusade" against Muslims after 9/11. Really? If you wish to pursue a 'Holy War' then you are the same as those you are fighting, just with different skin tones and languages - the ultimate reality is the same.
After writing 22 letters home to the families of my brothers who will never get older, after participating in the first days of Nixon's grand plan for "Peace with honor" (which was a ploy to extend the war so he could get reelected in '72), after having killed another human, no in anger but in defense of my perimeter, after experiencing uncounted TBIs from artillery muzzle blasts I say this to you - you want a holy war? Go get a gun and a plane ticket and head on over and get busy.
All humans are equal in my eyes, but not all men are human.
Another case of The work of the devil on earth to eradicate God from the lives of His people. I have got news for him and all his agents. I have got news for you and all your agents here on earth. You were already defeated at the cross of Calvary and you will be again when Jesus returns for His people. You can go around screaming and yelling and trying to push your agenda through but in the end YOU LOST.
@Melchett - I support Hope Solo and I agree with her view that as an athlete when a team doesn't come at you, when they clearly could have, it can feel like they are cowardly in not doing so. It is a feeling she expressed and I have no problem with her expressing her true feelings. I understand that not everyone agrees that she should express her feelings in a truthful manner and should make nice because that's what female athletes are supposed to do. I would much rather be represented by someone who isn't afraid to say it like she feels than someone who makes up lies to cover up their juvenile stupidity. I will agree to disagree on this with you. Have a day.
Glad to see common sense prevail for a change. It's time to be more active in getting this country back to a place where there is reverence and love for the one TRUE God and love for each other. There is a difference between not loving someone ( fill in whatever protected class you wish ) based on their belief, sexually, religiously etc. and accepting and celebrating it. There is a right and a wrong period. Whether people want to accept it or not. We need to be at a place to lovingly reject the fallacy that if it feels good at the moment than it must be ok to do it. What a childish, immature and senseless world we live in. I challenge the bible haters to actually read what they seem to hate so much. If you do truly read all of it in context and not pull individual texts out to twist the meaning to fit your hateful purpose, you will see that it is truly good. Anyone who is honest cannot deny that things are getting worse and worse in our country and the world in general. There is a logical reason for that. You know it as do I.
Reading the MRFF sycophants talk about "harassment" is both hilarious and pathetic. They are the ones doing all the harassing here.
@diane, we will clearly have to agree to disagree on this one, in large part because I don't understand your rationale.
You said you aren't giving Solo a pass but then also say that you're not disappointed in how she expresses herself? I respect her passion, but can not understand anyone defending the way in which she express her frustration.
Furthermore, the fact that 'cowardly' is the antonym to 'courage' is neither here nor there. There are different degrees of and ways in which courage can be displayed. Because one team is courageous it doesn't automatically follow that their opposition can't also be.
If you want to say, 'I support Hope Solo and agree with her characterization of Sweden's performance' then good for you; that's your hill to die on. I wouldn't spend any more time attempting to explain your position though because, honestly, you're only making less sense the more you try.
Christianity is becoming the most persecuted religion in this country, despite its being a large part of our historical culture. Anyone who tries to change the culture of other nations is shot down fast, but not here. I'm thankful for this small victory.
US military personnel do not give up their personal rights of free expression and to worship as they please. (Folks, it's freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion, as Mikey wishes it to be.) I agree with the poster who pointed out that the Koran or any other book wouldn't have received a second glance. Mikey likes to stir the pot whenever he can. The Air Force made the right call on this one.
@melchett - I didn't say she should get a pass, but I'm not disappointed in her passion or her way of expressing herself. She said US was courageous and the antonym is cowardly, so I think in her analogy it works. Coward is one of those words that triggers strong emotions, so I'm not surprised people have a problem with it. What I did say is that I strongly don't agree with your characterization that she's an "infant" or "toddler-esque". She's a grown woman who speaks her mind and if that offends some people's sensibilities, then it just does. I'm answering this after her announced suspension and termination of her US Soccer contract, so I guess you win. Male athletes are not expected to "play nice" the same way female athletes are and this is just a reaffirmation of that. Finally, I have no problem being represented by an athlete that puts it all out there, truthfully and unapologetically. Life is often not pretty, but I always appreciate when it's real.
I am offended by many things as many people are. But unless it threatened my life or others I think we should keep those things to ourselves. I am not Muslim but a Koran on somebody's desk would not offend me. I would probably in my 15 minute break even ask to talk about it. G. Blank
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ! Muslims are given every protection and freedom to exercise their religion. Even Satanists are now openly having rituals to Satan and leading our children into Devil Worship. But a lone Bible sitting on a desktop becomes a huge problem - why? "For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires." Hebrews 4:12
Unfortunately, the survey closed before we found out that Peterson Air Force Base was contaminating groundwater supplies in the Fountain and Widefield/Security areas that might take a generation of more to clean up.
It is important to note that PPACG got $805,000 from the Pentagon to do this "study". It was certainly mostly in house. Sprinkle in a few negative comments from those few who happened to find out about it and wrap up a neat package of support for business as usual. As the article points out the pollution of the Widefield aquifer is ignored. A month ago I called them and urged them to get involved. I got a brushoff which informed me that they couldn't do anything unless one of the government or military actors asked them to get involved. This report is not credible.
NOBODY SAID HE COULDN’T READ THE BIBLE AT WORK ON HIS OWN BREAKS!!! But as a COMMANDER, he is not allowed to DISPLAY a Bible because it pressures his employees under his influence. What don’t you understand about this work law???
The Department defines harassing conduct as any unwelcome conduct, verbal or physical, based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, parental status, sexual orientation, or political affiliation or belief, that either: can reasonably be considered to adversely affect the work environment, or results in an employment decision affecting the employee and is based upon the employee's acceptance or rejection of such conduct.
I agree with obliosupercat..... minus the blasphemy and vulgarity.
The bible, just sitting there, has always been a threat to weak people. What are they afraid of?
What a shame. Colorado Springs' major players continue to devour the city.
It's just a book! Christ on a crutch, can't folks even choose to read whatever they want anymore? You don't have to like what other people choose to read. Books are not dangerous to those who possess critical thinking skills and the self-confidence to think for themselves. Let the man read his fucking book!
Well, your right gurD...We've got quite a few folks who like to run around with their very limited military experience on their chest. My thought is it's those who seek the fame did the least....AKA Mikey, Gordon and few others. Your reply doesn't dispute my opinion that Mikey has just played the system so I assume that you too believe he's just doing this for the money. I don't really believe he's anti-Christian or any other religion. I believe he just saw an opportunity for a free law degree and later, a scheme to incite truly anti-religious folks into supporting a non-profit in which he makes a very comfortable living. Likely no different than a televangelist who tells folks to send money to him so he can save them, Mikey is just harvesting the other side.
