Forest Martin, you look just like a young Charlie Chaplin! I enjoyed your hot springs articles.
Something I found out today that seemed strange but yet played right into my thoughts on C4C. They named a young lady as the head person in charge of the USOC museum or Hall of Fame. When the question came up as to what museum it has not been built yet or funded yet. We were told they the USOC is going to build it one way or another and that private funding is allowing it to go forward. Now USOC is moving forward UCCS has said it is moving forward with the sports med. center all with private funds. What is it the taxpayers are funding? Now we all know funding does not happen over night. So these two things have been planned a while now. So I think the our Mayor jumped the bandwagon used these two items to push his agenda to sell the property downtown by adding these two private funded attractions to his C4C project. The property downtown is owned by a group of people that gave a bunch of money to him at election time. A couple projects aimed at tourist's come across the desk then all of a sudden hes headed to Denver to get a tax rebate so he can pat himself in front of the press and could push forward to sell that property to the taxpayers. I could be wrong and all this could be a coincidence but sure seems strange the way it all plays out. We dont need or have a use for a Stadium yet I think were going to end up with one.
"...desperate to bring people into our downtown without allowing any creativity or counter-culture, so that leaves sports.
Their investment of $53 million on the Olympic Committee headquarters probably hasn't paid back one dime of increased revenue, so instead of looking to arts and unique venues like other cities with prospering downtowns, they want more sports."
Couldn't have said it better. Wish it weren't true.
Hi Amy. Google Search snippets are a funny thing. While I was casually going through my search results I see this:
"When I was in my late teens, I was hot to be completely independent from my parents. Now that I'm in my late 40s, I wish my parents would get high on LSD and ..."
Now, of course you know I just had to click to find out what you wanted them to do once the acid took full effect. Paying your electric bill was not on my radar. Though this compared to them say, finger painting the SUV seems a bit more pragmatic.
Now - I'm off to look for my dimmer switch.
I am glad that A64 club won its designation as a private social club and can stay open...I wish the governor would have spent the money on more substantial things our state needs but it's a start
An absolute fascinating story Matthew... and thank you for all the photos and resource links you've added throughout the csindy.com site and csindystories.com site on this project!! Great job to your whole team involved.
Thanks very mucyh for writing about what, in my opinion, is our wonderful grassroots system, the best chance the common person has for serving in elected public office.
I'm going to post a link to this from our Colorado Caucus News site, and perhaps that will bring readers here who will share an alternative point of view, your readers could go to our site to see articles from around the state that speak well of it. http://Facebook.com/ColoradoCaucusNews
There is a website with more information http://www.COCaucus.org, very rough, a labor of love from someone who has seen the system at it's best and who has high hopes the bright young people who will be going to their first or second caucus next Tuesday will learn the tricks necessary for it to become a megaphone, the last, best hope to fight back against the forces that would prefer we all just give them our proxy. Please share it with your friends who might be interested in taking a turn at the plate.
I agree, let Phil do it. He wants the stadium so why should WE the taxpayers buy it for him? Maybe Phil has enough pull to get the Broncos to relocate to COS. But then, what would Denver do with an empty stadium? Maybe Phil can get the USOC to relocate to Denver and use their now empty stadium to host amateur Olympic training events. And while he's at it, how about Phil building an Olympic museum in Denver. And if Phil wants to share the fun and profit of building and operating a stadium and museum located in Denver, he can call Hybl at the El Pomar Foundation, who will undoubtedly want to help Phil make his "vision" a reality.
Solar flares? Hahaha.
"The city has yet to pay PERA a dime, hoping to use UCH's payment for other purposes."
That is the money Bach wants for his developer pals to use for C4C.
Time to impeach Bach, but our usual pack of snarling tax haters are nowhere to be found.
I have so missed you! Moved to Phoenix a while back and you would find TONS to write about down here! I will guarantee you one reader and I don't mean Sheriff Joe! Keep writing, Rich!
Hey that's me!
Welcome back John. I was worried about the lack of tongue in cheek reporting I am so fond of. To much serious stuff and not enough tom-foolery. But you forgot the marijuana franchisees.
Fortunately the "over 65" disapprovers are dying off.
Also, if I were a MJ business person, I would use the logo and tell the state to gfys. A nice court challenge or two is what they need to set them straight.
Are you out of your fugging mind?
I think C4C/G is all fine and nice - but the infrastructure of Colorado Springs is shot. All of these visions of grandeur for the city don't give a rats ass about the unemployment issue, piss poor public transportation and the homeless, among many other issues. These are all ignored - hey if we build a bunch of stuff people will come and spend their money here - R I G H T! Where are all these people with extra money to gamble away going to come from?
Actually, I think C4C is a ludicrous idea - unless it's COMPLETELY funded by private investors. You say that it will cost $250 M before the interest payments? I'll bet dollars to donuts the ACTUAL cost, when all the overruns, dishonest contractors and other shady folks take their "cut" of the deal, it will probably run double that price tag, if not more.
Count me out of all of it.
AGAIN- WHY IS CS NOT DEVELOPING A HEMP INDUSTRY HERE?
XTRM Cannabis Ventures to Grow and Process Medical Marijuana and Hemp.
Don McCullin, you defend Michael Savage by comparing him to Ed Schultz, David Letterman, and Julianne Malveaux. You conclude, "For liberty and freedom you must stand with the people like Michael Savage..." To make this point perfectly clear, "for liberty and freedom" one "must stand" also with Ed Schultz, David Letterman, and Julianne Malveaux, as you yourself contend they are "people like Michael Savage."
Nevertheless, you are forgetting, or deliberately neglecting, the most important person in this discussion, Pete Seeger. Pete Seeger is the only person mentioned who actually was the victim of government censorship and blacklisting, and it is a testament to his strength of character that he was able to overcome.
Therefore, "for liberty and freedom" one must stand, above all, with Pete Seeger.
I guess Hemp and Hemp Products as supported by the new Farm Bill do not get to use the logo and program either? What about businesses that get busted for Federal law violations? EPA, Labor, Safety...Do they automatically get excluded and the list updated? This might be an interesting lawsuit, news story follow-up and public interest story.
Does the health board of El Paso have scientific proof with a preponderance of evidence of what they just published as fact without public meetings on the subject? Do they understand and why are they not publishing the same as alcohol standard of basis and also the UNDER 21 standards of practice? The basis of what they did with this is very legally suspect if someone proves standing if not pure constitutional in core basis.
I was called and told to take the new logo down from my web site...because of the word "cannabis!" I said, "Gladly!" I have had 500 people come from other states and visit, paying all the "tourist" taxes! …Shine A Light

"John, I'd like you to write a column about Aimee Cox, and make it extremely positive. I need help with this homeless initiative. Thanks. - Steve Bach"
Just kidding. John H. is completely objective when it comes to women. But, either way, Aimee Cox is worth her salt. So, I agree with you, John. - and Mayor Bach.
