Re: “Eating vegan and vegetarian in Colorado Springs

sucks that you have to drive to Denver cough cough to get a good hare krishna vegetarian buffet at govindas but it is worth the drive.

Re: “20 Questions

The pothole debacle this Spring, and the response that followed crystalized how things run here. Unfortunate and also true.

Re: “Do it yourself

There is a farmers market in Fountain. Mondays, I believe.

Re: “Do it yourself

Did anybody else notice the fact that there are no farmers' markets in the "southeast quadrant"???

Re: “From A to Za

Karl Ray brings up a really good point. There have been quite a few roach coaches rolling around here for years before it became hip.
What was the criteria here to be included?

Re: “From A to Za

How about La Flor de Jalisco, usually found in the parking lot in front of Rampart Plumbing and Heating Supply? Great tacos and ceviche. Everyone grabs lunch there. Or is that not hoidy toidy enough for the Indy?

Re: “Tread on me

Re: “Shop around Colorado Springs

Three businesses listed for Old Colorado City? When most of the Independent Best of Categories are ranked in Old Colorado City? You have the best local Restaurants, local Artists, a great Comic and Collectables store, Custom Jewelers, a Gaming Shop, Lorig's Western wear, Children's Clothing, a year round Holiday Shop and my shop Podiatryst Shoe Salon(#2 shoe store in the Best of 2014). Where were your writers, at their desks?

Re: “Eat your greens

What about Poor Richard's? They were pioneers in the socially and environmentally conscious restaurant space here in the Springs... They compost all waste and have solar panels on the roof for crying out loud!

Re: “Belly up

I think Billy's old world pizza actually closed down last year. Kind of a shame since it was delicious.

Re: “What dog-lovers must know, and where they should go

You forgot Yucca Flats at Palmer Park (the off leash area, not the the chainlink dirt 'park') and the great meetup group Mutts Welcome: http://www.meetup.com/Mutts-Welcome/ .

Re: “What dog-lovers must know, and where they should go

You guys need to head up the pass more often. Woodland Park is the home of Big Dawg Ssndwiches, we are as dog friendly as the health department will let us AND a portion of profits go to local animal rescue groups. The sandwiches are amazing too!

Re: “Eating vegan and vegetarian in Colorado Springs

I think it is very telling that this large city has no truly Veg or Vegan restaurants. Of course, we are not known for our great food scene.

Re: “Colorado cornucopia

There does seem to be a large selection of food and drink besides the restaurants. I love visiting local farmer's markets. There is nothing like fresh, home grown fruit and veggies.

Re: “2013: North restaurants

Silver Pond Chinese is awful. We recently went there with a large party and it took 2 1/1 hours to get our food. I wanted to walk out, but the others in my group hoped we would get served soon. Food came out slowly & sporadically and service was non existent. Soup was lukewarm at best, we had to take our own silverware from another empty table, we cleared our own table - and after waiting 20 minutes initially when we sat down, we helped ourselves to our own menus. At the end of the meal after being at the restaurant for over 3 hours, we spoke with the manager about our very unpleasant dining experience and asked for compensation. She was willing to take off the price of 2 appetizers from a $200 bill, which was almost nothing, an insult. Any other restaurant that values their customers would have made a greater effort to satisfy 3 families, rather than send them away unhappy. After much negotiation back & forth, she wound up taking $30 off the bill, which we felt was still not enough considering the terrible experience we had. We will not be back.

The French Kitchen www.tfkcc.com is also offering cooking classes. We teach French home cooking in a cozy atmosphere, just like in your home. Classes are hands on, 6 students maximum and you always take a lot of food home. They are taught by a French mom who is very organized and who will give you all the tricks she can to save time. Our most popular one : BREAD!

If you're interested in playing ultimate instead of disc golf, check out the Colorado Springs Ultimate Network. They offer pickup games, Summer and Fall league play, club-level teams, and a high school league. www.springsultimate.org

Re: “InSider restaurants

East Coast Deli on Tejon Street. Authentic NY deli style pastrami, corned beef and hot dogs are flown in from the Big Apple. They have a Kosher area in the kitchen. No other deli in the Springs can compare. I take a friend there whose family used to own a Deli in Brooklyn back in the 1930s-60's and she knows great deli when she tastes it. We tried others in town and only the East Coast Deli brings a smile to her 87 year old face and the comment "now THIS is a good sandwich!".
