Who the f*ck is Frank Frey, and why is his face on stickers around town?

I’ve never met Epicentral Coworking space captain (think manager) and former town bartender Frank Frey, but I’ve seen him around. His face shows up in cafés, bars, offices, concert venues and more. Frank’s visage is behind the bar on equipment at Piglatin Cocina and the Principal’s Office, and on the tip jar at Wild Goose Meeting House. He’s also been spotted in Denver, California, Mexico, Peru, London and more, all thanks to Kevin Reed, whose drawing of Frey turned into a sticker that has, for reasons unknown, become something of a citywide meme — incomprehensible to the unfamiliar and an artifact of joy for those in the know.

“It’s kind of taken off on its own,” says Reed, who does freelance video post-production and rents space at Epicentral. “He’s something of a mascot for the downtown scene.” Reed’s been teaching himself graphic design on the side since moving to town in late 2015. And that’s why fellow Epicentral space captain Kayla Battles asked him to do a drawing of Frey for a sign in the Epicentral kitchen — a Frank reminder that people should wash their own dishes.

“It’s my understanding that Kevin said ‘All I want is a sticker,’” says Frey. As it happened, one of Reed’s neighbors at Epicentral worked for StickerMule and was able to print out a few. A few became many, and now Reed keeps around a hundred of them on his person at all times.

For Frey, the weirdest part is the Instagram page, @findfrankfrey, for people to post where his face has ended up. The tag was even added in a recent batch of stickers. But Frey says it’s also an illustration of what co-working spaces can do.

“You’ve got all these different industries and all these different people that do different things that can create a product.”
