Another way to help

If you're looking to give money to help the situation in Haiti, but would prefer not to go through the Red Cross, here's another idea from Indy staffer Amanda Lundgren:

"Relief efforts in Haiti are underway, thanks to people like my dad, Arie Van Wingerden, and four of his brothers, John, Nick, Joe and Bob. Right now they are on a plane to Haiti where they will assist with on-the-ground relief efforts at Operation Double Harvest, a mission started by their father (my grandfather) Aart Van Wingerden.

Founded in 1981, Double Harvest is a Christian organization that seeks to 'help the Haitian people help themselves.' The 200-acre project consists of a farm, school, housing projects and a medical/surgical clinic.

According to Arie, the greatest need right now is for financial contributions that will pay for fuel for the generator that powers the medical clinic and other vital services.

Double Harvest is located approximately one-half hour east of Port-au-Prince, near the town of Croix des Bouquets. For more info, go to"
