You can help save the city pools!

Swimming: Good, clean fun.

The city's community centers aren't the only city assets fighting for survival. The city's pools have likewise been placed on life support until March 31, when they are scheduled to close unless they can find other funding. While a deal is likely in the works with a private swim lesson company to take over three of the city's pools, the rest remain on the chopping block.

Friends of Aquatics really doesn't want any of the city's pools to be taken over by a private company, and the group certainly doesn't want the pools to close. So they've been working diligently to raise enough money to keep the pools open and public.

Information on how you can help in in the press release below:

Save Our Pools

The Friends of Aquatics, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in support of our community pools, are raising $250,000 to help preserve pool and fitness center operations. With your tax-deductible donation, you will be helping over 200,000 youth, teens, adults, seniors, and individuals with disabilities increase their water safety, improve self confidence and ultimately maintain healthy lifestyles. Proceeds will help keep facilities run by the City of Colorado Springs open and able to offer affordable opportunities for all members of our community. City pools helped more than 6,500 participants learn to swim in 2009, but without help these facilities and programs will be lost due to the current budget shortfall.

You can help save our pools for today and tomorrow’s youth, adult and seniors through your participation in several funding opportunities to include: fundraising events, paver and banner purchases, sponsorships, and individual tax-deductible donations to our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Call or e-mail no later than Monday, March 8, 2010 for donation options using the following contact information:
