Downtown club: Syn-onara for now?

Again getting a close look: Syn nightclub.
  • Again getting a close look: Syn nightclub.

The Syn nightclub is in deep doo-doo again. Not that those folks ever really got out of it.

The downtown hot spot has gone through many changes over the last few years — what was once Eden was sold and renamed 13 Pure, then renamed again to Syn — but its face has remained pretty much the same. It's been known for attracting weapons and fights. Some shooting incidents have been tied to people leaving the club.

All the infractions have infuriated the Downtown Partnership, which is hoping Syn's owners and owners of other downtown clubs might agree to new rules aimed at curbing the violence. Staggered closing hours and dress codes are among them, according to Gazette quotes from Partnership leader Ron Butlin.

The Partnership has sought the rules for years, to no avail.

But Syn may not always be a thorn in the Partnership's side. Not if the Liquor Board has anything to say about it. Recently, Syn got in trouble for a large-scale fight that took 20 cops to break up, and for serving to underage patrons.

The Liquor Board — which has already threatened to suspended Syn's license following the Girls Gone Wild Tittygate scandal last year (bare breasts in a club is a no-no) — plans to consider suspending the club's license tomorrow.

Here's the information:

Agenda for the Special Called Liquor and Beer Licensing Board Meeting of March 10, 2010 — 1:00 P.M., Council Chambers, City Hall, 107 North Nevada Avenue

1. Request for Summary Suspension of the Tavern Liquor License issued to 13 Pure, Inc.,/Syn, Inc. dba 13 Pure/Syn Night Club, 217 East Pikes Peak Avenue.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathryn M. Young, CMC/CERA
City Clerk
