"Conversations in the Galleries" kicks off at the FAC

Posted By on Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 6:30 AM

From the listings desk: As part of the community outreach programming tied in with the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center's new exhibit Conflict | Resolution, the museum will host a discussion on homelessness in the Springs with speakers Jan Martin of city council and Brett Iverson of the CSPD's Homeless Outreach Team. The conversation will start at 2 p.m. this Saturday.

Martin and Iverson's presentation is inspired by a painting by Russian artist Nicolai Fechin titled Disasters of War (Spoils of War), which is now hanging in one of Conflict's visual art exhibitions, Dealing with Difference.

The heartbreaking and harsh work depicts a woman slumped in her dirty kitchen, overcome by poverty.

This Fechin is a part of the FACs permanent collection.

This is the first gallery conversation in a series of five, which includes topics on bullying, non-violent communication and "The Meaning of Language," which will feature Indy columnist Rich Tosches. All talks are free with museum admission ($8.50-$10, free for members).
