Chicken Lady goes down in feathers

Vegetarian doctors breathed a long sight of relief with this week's Super Tuesday putdown of Sue Lowden.

A Republican candidate for Harry Reid’s Senate seat from Nevada, Lowden became known as “The Chicken Lady” after she began insisting that Americans don’t need health-care reform when they can simply raise chickens and barter them in exchange for medical care.

For those who are not familiar with the intricacies of the health-care debate, chicken is a delicious food that’s grown in red-and-white buckets.

Of course, Sharron Angle — the Tea Party-favored candidate who trounced Lowden in Nevada's Republican primary — is no prize either, given her desire to dismantle Social Security, abolish the U.S. Department of Education, and promote the use of her home state’s Yucca Mountain as a nuclear waste dump.

Anyway, before we bid farewell to another right-wing media sensation (as if that were ever possible), let’s revisit one of Lowden’s earliest television appearances:
