Tool choose Elktooth, CO's own Wovenhand as Red Rocks opener

Whether through the miracle of concert promotion or artist management, most headliners at Red Rocks shy away from local artists when it comes to choosing opening acts.

Which is not to say that's always a bad thing: Australia's relatively unknown Tame Impala played a nice reverb-drenched set at the scenic venue last Friday night, after which rising star Janelle Monae went on to blow away headliners MGMT.

But Maynard James Keenan and his bandmates in Tool deserve credit for announcing Colorado's own Wovenhand as their support act.

Wovenhand, as you may already know, is the latest project by David Eugene Edwards, widely regarded as the primary architect of the storied "Denver Sound" thanks to the southern gothic exploits of his former band 16 Horsepower.

The bad new for most of us, however, is that tickets for Tool's June 28-29 stint at Red Rocks went on sale yesterday morning and sold out in less than 24 hours.

The good news is that there are still good seats available for this coming Saturday's John Denver tribute.
