Make money, eat food, support veterans

Do you have a plethora of outdoor gear you never use? Have you ever posted said gear on craigslist hoping to make a quick buck, and gotten a creepy e-mail back?

Fear no more! On Saturday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mountain Equipment Recyclers, Inc. (M.E.R.) will be hosting a grand-opening event at its new consignment store at 1005 S. Tejon St.

M.E.R is a new Colorado Springs nonprofit that donates 50 percent of the sales of used outdoor gear to AspenPointe, LifeQuest Transitions, and The Home Front Cares, all organizations that benefit returning veterans and their families. They also donate 5 percent of actual gear to the same causes. At the grand opening there will be music, art, raffles and giveaways, and refreshments.

Bring your gear and make some mulah.

No creeps attached.
