Hop aboard a bus next Saturday

Some Saturday bus service returns on Saturday, March 12, with Mountain Metropolitan Transit restoring some routes funded by the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.

The restoration resulted from "an in-depth evaluation process and with an eye toward squeezing as much service as possible out of the available funding," transit said in a news release.

Saturday service will be resurrected to routes 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 9 (UCCS only), 12, 14 and 25. The outlying Saturday service start time will be approximately 6:30 a.m. and the end time at approximately 7 p.m. The popular downtown terminal, at 127 E. Kiowa Street, will have its first Saturday bus depart the terminal at 7:15 a.m. and the last bus of the day will depart at approximately 6:15 p.m. Detailed route information can be found on Mountain Metropolitan’s website.

An increase in fixed-route bus service also means an increase in paratransit service. MMT’s Metro Mobility vans will provide Saturday service within a ¾-mile radius of the fixed-route bus service. The mobility vans provide transportation for people with disabilities who are certified as eligible by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
“Restoring limited Saturday service to our busiest routes will be very beneficial for many of our customers. We recognize that this limited service doesn’t address the needs of every customer and we hope to be able to restore Saturday service to the remaining routes when additional funding becomes available,” said Craig Blewitt, director Mountain Metropolitan Transit.
