Ham it up for needy families

Posted By on Thu, Apr 14, 2011 at 4:45 PM

You know, most of us associate gluttony with the months spanning from November to January. But Easter, which is coming up soon, is just as packed full of ham and mashed potatoes, not to mention deviled eggs and Peeps.

And while for some of us, the Easter meal represents little more than five extra pounds hanging off our hips just a couple months shy of bikini season, others see the gathering as a great way to reconnect with family.

Besides, let's face it, the kids love this stuff.

Unfortunately, putting on an Easter meal for the fam isn't in everyone's budget, especially these days. So, Springs Rescue Mission is stepping up its efforts over the next 10 days to collect food for needy families. So get in the holiday spirit, and donate some ham and potatoes.

Campaign Continues to Turn Hunger into Hope

Colorado Springs, CO — April 14, 2011 — The “Springs Food Fight” continues. Springs Rescue Mission (SRM) is in the middle of its Easter campaign to “Turn Hunger Into Hope” by feeding thousands of hungry and homeless people this holiday season!

SRM still needs a lot of help accumulating food and is asking the community to join the effort. During the next ten days, preparations will be underway to supply hundreds of families with holiday food boxes and facilitate a large Easter meal for the poorest in Colorado Springs.

“This time of year we serve some of the most broken people in our city. Coming together as a community in response to a great need will bring tremendous hope to our struggling neighbors. It’s not just about the donation of the food we need; it’s about showing we care for each other, and offering other solutions that help in a greater way” says Joe Vazquez, CEO of Springs Rescue Mission.

SRM is asking for a community effort in donating as many of the items needed in the next 10 days and join in the effort of providing for struggling families with children and individuals who are relying on the Mission’s help this year.

“By providing a meal we get people in the door and out of the cold. But it’s also through that one meal we can open the door to other opportunities to give them life essential assistance they desperately need,” continues Mr. Vazquez.
