Google is for the birds today

Sigh. Swoon. Have you seen Google today?


Excellent use of negative space, right? But why the birds? Because today is artist John James Audubon's 226th birthday (read more about it here or here).

Audubon is best known for his scientific artwork depicting birds, and last December, a copy of his ultra-majestic Birds of America book was sold at Sotheby's for a record-breaking $10 million.

And that money is well-spent, if you ask me. Who else besides Audubon could give a pelican such panache? I could wallpaper my house with this image:
