Flammulation celebration!

From the listings desk: It started slowly, but now the point is clear: Flammulated owls are all the rage. And look at them — why wouldn't they be?


Real proof? Here are two upcoming events all about flammulateds, and more are sure to come over the summer.

Flammulated Owl Field Trip
Thursday, June 30, 5:30 — 11:30 p.m.
Bear Creek Nature Center, 245 Bear Creek Road
Join Dr. Brian Linkhart, expert of flammulated owls, for a behind the scenes tour of his research and seeing flammulated owls in the field. ($25.00/member, $30.00/nonmember, Maximum of 12. Advanced reservations & prepayment is required, 520-6387.

"Natural History and Ecology of the Flammulated Owl"
Fri., July 8, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Manitou Experimental Forest, Woodland Park
A hands-on course, also given by Dr. Linkhart, about flammulateds, hosted by the Florissant Fossil Beds as part of its 2011 Seminar Series. Click here for more.

Should you attend these events, try and avoid inappropriate squealing or squee-ing, and keep questions like "Can I pet one?" "Can I squeeze it?" "Can I hug it?" to an absolute minimum. Don't try and sneak one home in your purse or pocket. Don't make your friend or partner you brought mumble "Not at home. Not at home." For all these reasons, I'll be staying home.
