Last weekend, we stopped by Mountain Living Studio and spoke with owner Bianca Codiga, who informed us that the gallery just recently added five new artists to its collective. While some of the additions are of a more decorative stripe, others have more of a cutting edge about them, fitting in with one of the gallery's great attributes. One of new artists is Marcus Rice, whose large portraits of a crouched man and woman are particularly striking.

Phil Lear has also joined MLS. Lear, of the highly stylized messy brushstroke paintings, has been gaining momentum around town, and it's about time. He accomplishes wonders in his genre paintings, still-lifes and landscapes by way of pairing his signature style with a can't-be-faked set of skills for expressions and depth. Beyond a plethora of galleries and restaurants, his works will hang at the Mining Exchange, A Wyndham Grand Hotel upon its completed renovation.

To see all the new works, including some great new pieces by Liese Chavez, hit MLS this Friday night for Manitou Springs' Third Friday art walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Expect refreshments and snacks, as well as new works at other galleries and shops around Manitou.
