Party with Obama downtown

Because there's nothing interesting — I mean, there's nothing more interesting — than watching the State of the Union address, local campaign staffers are getting together at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at downtown's Coffee Exchange to watch President Barack Obama drill deep into the national situation and really get granular on the specifics. I expect there to be lots of talk of future dialoguing with members of Congress, and continuing developments as he issues the results of his cogitation on his captive — I mean captivated — audience.

No, really, it's gonna be a great time, professor Jack Pitney tells CBS News.

"State of the Union addresses are kind of like the foam rubber rocks they used on Star Trek — they look solid but aren't," said Jack Pitney, a political scientist at Claremont McKenna College. "Presidents will talk about solving some policy problem, and then the bold language of the State of the Union address disappears into the messy reality of governing."

So enjoy, all that attend.
