Catstock: adoption is groovy.
  • Catstock: adoption is groovy.

In case you're still hunting for that perfect Father's Day gift, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) has plenty of four-legged friends looking for loving homes. June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, and HSPPR's adoption deals may be tempting enough for you to adopt one for dad. (Or maybe just yourself. It's all right; we won't tell.)

This year's theme is Catstock: Peace, Love, Cats. Cats five months and older are $20 to adopt this month, and all cats are free on Father's Day, June 17. They'll also be free on June 30 and July 1; dogs — yes, they deserve love, too — will be $50 to adopt on those two days.

According to the release, 110 cats have already been adopted this month. Jan McHugh-Smith, HSPPR president and CEO, says the shelter's overall save rate for cats last year was above the national average at 55.9 percent. To help further increase that number, HSPPR will provide all of the following for cats adopted this month:

... spay/neuter, vaccinations, voucher for a veterinarian exam, 45 days of pet health insurance, a microchip and a FREE designer collar donated by Republic of Paws and a custom ID tag. HSPPR hopes that by sending cats home wearing collars and tags that the number of lost cats reunited with their families will also increase.
