Three consultants to present Drake proposals next Friday

Posted By on Fri, Mar 22, 2013 at 2:05 PM

The Martin Drake Power Plant task force today narrowed the field of consultants for a study of how and when to decommission the coal-fired downtown plant. Three of six were chosen. They are:

· HDR Engineering Inc., headquartered in Ann Arbor, Mich., with five offices in Colorado, including Colorado Springs.
· Black & Veatch, headquartered in Overland Park, Kan., with offices in Colorado Springs and Englewood, Colo.
· Environmental Resources Management (ERM), headquartered in Walnut Creek, Calif., with an office in Denver.

The task force used the following criteria to eliminate three firms, according to a news release:

• Technical - Understanding of Effort
• Technical - Approach/ Methodology
• Technical - Integration and Implementation
• Management and Staffing
• Experience and Performance

The three firms will present their proposals at the task force’s meeting next Friday, March 29, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in Council Chambers, third floor, City Hall, 107 N. Nevada Ave.. The public is invited to attend but must follow certain rules, which bar audio and video recording of the meeting. No questions from the public will be allowed.

(We're not sure it's legal to conduct a public meeting and bar recording of it. Anyone have a take on that?)

Drake produces nearly a third of the power generated by ratepayer-owned Colorado Springs Utilities.
