Danny Cole hired by local GOP

Danny Cole, campaign manager for Colorado Springs City Council President Keith King, has been hired as director of operations for the El Paso County Republican Party.

The hiring of Cole ostensibly means he won't be replacing Council Administrator Aimee Cox, who’s been hired by Mayor Steve Bach in the economic vitality department. Cole had been discussed as a possibility for that job.

Cole has been active in party politics for years and most recently worked on King’s campaign against four other candidates in the city’s District 3, which covers the west and southwest portions of the city, including downtown.

Daniel Cole, 29, is the newest addition to the El Paso County Republican Party leadership team. He has accepted the position of Director of Operations working for Executive Director Cherish Schaffer. Cole comes aboard with broad journalistic and political experience. His columns for The Gazette Op-Ed Page have wowed Republican audiences since 2008, and his résumé includes the successful management of both issue and candidate campaigns, most recently Keith King’s bid for City Council. The Gazette has called Cole “a genuine limited-government conservative,” and a reporter for the Colorado Springs Business Journal has called him “a masterful partisan political operator.” Cole will focus his considerable talents on connecting and coordinating with volunteers.

In his new role, Cole undoubtedly will try to help the GOP recapture several state legislative seats from Democrats, including those held by Rep. Pete Lee in House District 18, Tony Exum Sr. in House District 17, and John Morse in Senate District 11, who of course is the subject of a recall petition.

The party reported $33,497 cash on hand as of Dec. 31, 2012. The next campaign finance report is due at year’s end. The party’s biggest event of the year, the Lincoln Day Dinner, which usually is held in February, is slated for June 29 at the Antlers Hilton Hotel. Keynote speaker is Herman Cain, the former presidential candidate.
