Springs Beer Fest coming next weekend

Posted By on Fri, Jul 26, 2013 at 9:31 AM

One of the better beer festivals in the region — not to mention one of the few chances to booze it up in a public park — is coming around for its seventh go, and has even moved to a bigger site.

From noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, Springs Beer Fest will likely fill America the Beautiful Park with people interested eating food from Old Chicago and Rock Bottom Restaurant, not to mention sampling libations from over 50 breweries.

And I say "fill" because the event, held in previous years at Antlers Park, tends to pack the area. Brewers have also tended to run out of beer well before the end, creating lines 40 people deep at whichever booths have remained.

Either way, offerings are usually interesting, and brewery participation diverse. This year expect booze from brewing companies Phantom Canyon, Ska, Grimm Brothers, Elevation, Odell, Firestone Walker, Mission and others.

Besides bottomless pours, tickets — $30 general admission; $50 for VIP access, which grants ticket holders entrance an hour earlier than the plebs — get you a souvenir tasting mug.

Proceeds benefit Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado, while the whole festival is dedicated to the memory of Josh Osterhoudt, Bristol Brewing Company's former general manager who died of cancer in February 2012.
