For your October calendar

You know First Friday is coming up next weekend, but are you also aware of two big events hosted by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region on the horizon? Read up.

Hootenanny for the Arts II: Brazilian Carnivale, Wed., Oct. 9, 6 p.m. $50. The Mansion, 20 N. Tejon St.

This isn't your usual opening reception or donors dinner. Here, artsy folk meet nightclub. Like last year, the bash will feature entertainment, spirits and food. On the docket this time: acrobatics, Brazilian dance, capoiera, roulette wheels and drawings to win a trip to Las Vegas.

2013 Business and Arts Luncheon, Tues., Oct. 15, 11:30 a.m.. $40. Antlers Hilton, 4 S. Cascade Ave.

Here, COPPeR, with the Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance, honors businesses and individuals who have made philanthropic moves toward the arts community, and those who have fostered creativity within their organizations. This year's finalists are:

Philanthropy Award: Wells Fargo Private Bank, The Mining Exchange, A Wyndham Grand Hotel, Kratt Commercial Properties

Creative Workspace Award: The Space Foundation, Poor Richard's Complex, The Ivywild School

Business Leader in the Arts: Ron Brasch and Una Ng-Brasch, Martha Marzolf, Sam and Kathy Guadagnoli

Besides that though, these B and A luncheons always include cool performances. This year's entertainment will be: music from the Pikes Peak Philharmonic and Grass It Up; performances from the Thin Air Theater Company, High Altitude Dance Ensemble of the Pikes Peak Community College Dance Department; spoken word artist Idris Goodwinand much more.
