Cool Science launches the Mini Fruitcake Toss

Posted By on Thu, Jan 9, 2014 at 5:20 PM

So, the Great Fruitcake Toss proper is still canned for this year, but the folks at Cool Science are going to pick up the slack for the kids.

This Saturday at 10 a.m., the local nonprofit will set up shop at the Manitou Art Center for a Mini Fruitcake Toss in which kids can make mini launchers and toss tiny fruitcakes for prizes. So, no pneumatic guns, giant catapults or cannons, but instead Cool Science will provide little catapult kits. Just be sure to sign up in advance so they have enough. And by the way, it's all free.

In the past, Cool Science has hosted weekend catapult workshops for kids, flinging marshmallows in advance of the big fruitcake show. "But this year to keep fruitcakes flying  in Manitou Springs, the catapult design will be tweaked to accommodate tiny fruitcakes as well as the usual marshmallows," reads the release.
“We’re hoping to inspire the next generation of Fruitcake Flinger Engineers with our event and we’re hoping some veteran fruitcake toss participants will stop in to help us further inspire the kids,” reported Marc Straub, Executive Director of Cool Science. “Even though the Great Fruitcake Toss was cancelled for this year, I’m sure it will be back and run for many years to come. Our kids today will not only participate in it in the future, but they’ll find new and exciting ways to propel fruitcakes if we engage them at events like this.”
That's right, Marc. Fight the good fight.
