Peaches, beef and a Clam Jamm — food haps ahead

Forget #FollowFriday, let's just take a look at some food and drink events on the horizon instead, ahead of the weekend:

• The Marian House Soup Kitchen is in need of ground beef donations; they're experiencing "an ongoing shortage." The charity runs through 90 pounds of the meat daily, on average, serving 600 meals. Any donations welcome, though 5- to 10-pound tubes are preferred for easy storage and usage. Drop donations daily but for Sundays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

• Fieldhouse Brewing Co. will host Grace Keirnes (owner of Peak Place Coffeehouse) as a guest chef on the Merken food truck on Thursday, July 24. She'll prepare buffalo green chile burgers and quinoa black bean burgers starting at 5 p.m., alongside Peak Place's manager, Anne Blair, who will conduct pourover demonstrations. Smith House Music will  play from 6 to 8 p.m. Here's the event flier: 

• The Monument Hill Kiwanis Club has announced its annual peach-sale fundraiser, benefitting youth activities in the Tri-Lakes area. Get 18-pound boxes of Western Slope peaches for $33 each; orders must be placed by Friday, July 25 for pickup on Saturday, Aug. 2 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Lewis-Palmer High School. Call 418-6623 for more. 

• Last month, we reported on local server Jennifer Moleski's "national blogumentary tour" of at least 100 of America's top service restaurants, as part of her iamWaitress agenda. Earlier this week, she shot out an update of her adventures thus far, calling the task "overwhelming." 

I have spend time in 22 restaurants as of this moment and each and every one has taught me something. I'll give you a quick list of what I have learned so far.

1. The places with the highest service scores team serve/tip pool and no one is upset about it and no one is weak. About 4 restaurants have NOT pooled or teamed.

2. The best places have the best family feel to them. The service team members get along and like each other.

3. Line ups are key! The longer the line and the more everyone is encouraged to give ideas, share thoughts and vent issues, the better and more seamless their services go.

4. Everyone is smiling and welcoming. No one acts like they're too cool, above anyone, or aloof. They are all, if not bubbly, very warm.

5. These people take their job seriously.

6. Every aspect is talked about, maybe not everyday, but nothing is ever thought of as a subject that "everyone should already know." They re-visit issues, best ways, and ideas.

7. They get along with the BOH and give them genuine props.

8. All orange cats are nice.

• Fiddles, Vittles and Vino X takes place Sunday, July 27 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Rock Ledge Ranch, the event's beneficiary. Entry is $45 to sample widely from local food and drink purveyors, alongside live bluegrass. 

• Brother Luck Street Eats will host an Alice in Wonderland cocktail dinner on Monday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m.; tickets are $80, limited to 40. Here's the event flier, complete with a menu:

Clam Jamm VI is coming up Sunday, Aug. 17 at 3:30 p.m. at the Margarita at PineCreek, delivering nine regional seafood plates with accoutrements and dessert. Tickets, $60, include non-alcoholic drinks; the booze will cost you more. 

• Now through Sept. 28, Village Inn restaurants are donating $1 from each Good Start Sandwich sold to local Boys & Girls Clubs. The sandwich: two hickory-smoked bacon strips, sliced deli ham, American cheese and two scrambled eggs on toast, with hash browns.
