Incline work coming along nicely

Missing the grueling hike up the Manitou Incline?

Good news: The Manitou Springs Incline Facebook page has new photos that show the project is coming along. The page also says that workers are on track and the trail should reopen in early December.

In case you aren't aware of the back story, the Incline is an old cog railway line that's long been one of the most-used and most challenging hikes in the region. The Incline was private property throughout most of its existence and hikers were actually trespassing by using it. But through the cooperation of local governments, private property owners, federal agencies, Colorado Springs Utilities, and even some state legislation, it was recently made into a legal hiking trail.

While that was great, it didn't take long for the trail to be closed again. Heavy use and weather had taken its toll on the trail — basically it was eroding off the hillside. Now, the Incline is undergoing a serious makeover that should ensure its survival. And hey, so far it looks pretty good!
