Anything that makes our brave K9 officers safer is worthy of note, especially if you're a dog lover, and I am.

So, we're happy to share a news release that came in this morning from Lt. Catherine Buckley from the Colorado Springs Police Department regarding protective vests.
The Colorado Police Department’s K9 Blitz and K9 Dax have been awarded ballistic vests thanks to a nonprofit organization, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. An anonymous local donor provided funds to the nonprofit for K9 Blitz. In addition, K9 Dax’s vest is being donated by the Hi Country Newcomers Club “In memory of K9 Petra” who died on September 8, 2014.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton, MA. Their mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. Each vest costs $950.00 and has a 5 year warranty. The nonprofit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four legged K9 Officers. Through private and corporate sponsorships, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 1125 law enforcement dogs in 40 different states with protective vests since 2009 at a cost of $1,068,750.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. announces their calendar, on sale now for $15.00, online at www.vik9s.org and at select retailers. Proceeds from the calendar sales will provide additional bullet and stab protective vests. All goods and services for the calendar were donated by generous sponsors, photographers and participating law enforcement agency for police dogs actively working without the potentially lifesaving equipment.

The organization orders the made in the United State vests exclusively from distributor Regency Police Supply in Hyannis, MA. Regency Police Supply provides custom embroidery on each K-9’s body armor.

New K9 graduates as well as K9's with expired vests are eligible to participate. The program is open to certified law enforcement dogs that are employed in the United States and are at least 19 months of age.
