Pick your Audubon, win a private tour at the FAC

In advance of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center's upcoming A Naturalist and an Artist — John James Audubon and Kevin Sloan show, it's asking the public to choose an extra Audubon to hang in the glass corridor.

Executive museum director and chief curator Blake Milteer, with Sloan, have chosen from the FAC's 197-piece Audubon collection what will appear in the show proper — about 40 works — but they were left with five pieces that almost made the cut. So they are leaving audiences the choice of which to display, based on Facebook comments and likes.

The contest lasts through March 1, and one winner will be chosen at random from the voters, receiving a private tour with Milteer (plus up to eight guests) and a signed copy of the exhibition catalogue. A tour with Milteer, believe me, is a hell of a prize.

Here are the contestants. (All images come courtesy of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.)

As of this writing, "Blue Crane" is winning by a landslide. I'm leaning myself toward "Chuck-Will's Widow," by virtue of the narrative going on in the piece with the snake. But mostly I have a soft spot for nightjars.
