Colorado ingredients earn a beer win

The U.S. Open Beer Championship recently concluded, win many Colorado outfits announced among the winners.

One of those is Golden's AC Golden Brewing Company, who placed in the top 10 overall and won three medals, including silver for their Colorado Native IPL

I received a press release with this news yesterday, just as a sample from the brewery arrived in the mail: the newly released Colorado Native Saison. It's the second of a specialty series that launched months ago with the limited release of a Double IPL.

This release too is restrained to 330 cases and 200 1/6th barrels and the company says if it receives favorable response it'll be brewed again next year.

I only found time to get my sample into the fridge last night and haven't yet tried it, but I can tell you a bit more about the brew from the release.

True to the MillerCoors subsidiary's mission, all ingredients are from in state: malt from Alamosa's Colorado Malting Company, hops grown in Olathe, and a special yeast blend to mimic French and Belgian strings, made up here in Woodland Park by the Brewing Science Institute

As a teaser, the company shared the plans for the next brew in the series, a Colorado Native Olathe Lager, due out in August for Colorado Proud Month. Olathe's famous sweet corn will star in the recipe, with hops and barley also grown within a mile of that harvest site, for a super-duper-local beer.
