Puppies, shopping and TV

Posted By on Fri, Jul 10, 2015 at 3:03 PM

City Council will have a full day on Monday as it looks at plans for a shopping center, hears a report on dogs and cats and other critters and considers a schedule for renewing the Comcast cable franchise.

The meeting begins at 1 p.m. at City Hall, 107 N. Nevada Ave.

Polaris Point, previously known as Copper Ridge, appears to be well on its way to becoming a destination shopping area. In a report to be given to Council on Monday, developers list what's coming to that area, already populated by a Bass Pro, Southern Hospitality Southern Kitchen and other stores.

Opening within the year or two are: 165-room Grand Resort Hotel and indoor water park, Boot Barn, Loaf N Jug, Sprouts Farmers Market, Ace Hardware, and Overdrive Raceway Go Karts.

Here's the report:

Council also will hear a report from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. Among the statistics: 4,088 cruelty to animals investigations. Hard to believe there are that many heartless assholes who would mistreat an animal.

Council also will consider the following in setting up a public comment period for the renewal of a Comcast franchise agreement:

Comcast Cable TV – Draft Public Process & Schedule
July 13 Council Work Session: Staff to present a proposed public input process to Council and seek Council input and direction. The proposed process will include: issuing a news release and publishing notice in the newspaper and on the City’s website seeking comment on the franchise renewal and notifying the public of a public hearing. Comments may be submitted to the City Clerk by mail or personal delivery (in writing), to IT by email or a website set up to collect comments, or to Council at a public hearing to be held on August 11 as part of a regular Council meeting. Comments will be received online, by mail, email or personal delivery for no less than 30 days. The scope of the comments will be limited to the cable operator’s past performance and the future cable-related needs of the community.
