UPDATE: Triple S growler delivery plan 'nixed'

Posted By on Wed, Dec 16, 2015 at 8:59 AM

... and not so fast says the powers that be.

Steve Stowell sent out a press release yesterday evening titled "growler delivery nixed."

Here's what he has to say about it:
As I was delivering the first growler to an awesome downtown business, the Liquor Enforcement Division (LED) for the state called me to renege. I had talked to an LED agent last September to see if it was legal and the answer was YES. I got it in writing and moved forward with the plan. Today, at the exact time I was delivering the first growler, the head of the LED called me to tell me it is not legal. I had to shut it down.

My license is not in jeopardy, I will continue to make great beer and food. This was going to be an innovative profit center that will unfortunately not happen now. Please come in and tip a beer for what could have been.

In our feature Appetite review this week, Griffin Swartzell says Triple S Brewing is off to a good start, on the heels of a gold-medal-win for its porter at the recent All Colorado Beer Festival.

When I'd first spoken to brewer/owner Steve Stowell for Side Dish in June, the former special forces soldier noted an ambitious and experimental plan to offer a first-of-its-kind growler delivery service in town.

On Friday, Stowell announced a launch date for the project: December 15, initially servicing those in the 80903 zip code, with more areas to follow.

Scheduled deliveries, "similar to the milkman," may be arranged for between 4 and 9 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays, though you must be present to show ID. Call the taproom to get set up.

"If it takes off, we will expand the areas and times, moving to an on-demand model for Friday and Saturday," Stowell says. "Just like the pizza man, you call us, we deliver."
