It should come as no surprise that Colorado Springs-based GE Johnson Construction has been chosen to act as construction manager and general contractor for a new Summit House atop Pikes Peak.

GE Johnson also is the contractor for the $60-million Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame to be built southwest of the downtown area, and remodeled the county's Citizens Service Center on Garden of the Gods Road, a project worth at least $13 million.

The company also was involved in building the World Arena, The Broadmoor Hotel West renovation, Penrose Hospital East Tower and others.

Mayor John Suthers made the announcement Thursday at a news conference.

“We are truly excited to be part of the team and humbled by this incredible opportunity,” Jim Johnson, president and CEO of GE Johnson, said in a city news release.

The release also said the new summit complex will replace four aging facilities on the summit of Pikes Peak. The successful completion of this project will restore areas of the mountain top and provide an outstanding visitor experience.
