Pikes Peak Urban Gardens launches a CSA program

Posted By on Fri, Feb 5, 2016 at 11:11 AM

Last month in Side Dish, we noted how the Arkansas Valley Organic Growers (AVOG) co-op has already begun selling CSA shares for 2016.

Now comes news from Pikes Peak Urban Gardens, announcing 20 shares available for its new CSA, running 22 weeks for $550. All herbs and vegetables are non-GMO, pesticide free, and grown with organic seed and agriculture methods.

Details are below, and if you like what you see, you can sign up here. Or get on a waitlist here if that fills up.

What is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)?

A CSA program is a way of helping to minimize the risk of an organization (traditionally a farm) to market vegetables. By having money up front, the customer takes part in the risks and rewards of the grower's crop.

Why is PPUG Offering a CSA?

By signing up as a CSA member you will not only receive a weekly supply of fresh organic produce but you will be helping support our mission to educate while strengthening a legacy of community building through the power of urban gardening!

How Do I Pick Up My Vegetables Each Week?

Every Saturday, beginning May 14th and ending October 8th, you will pick up your veggie box between the hours of 9am-12pm. Starting in May pickups will be held at the City Greenhouse, 224 Mesa Road. During the month of June pickups will transition to Harlan Wolfe Ranch, 915 W. Cheyenne Road. You will be notified two weeks in advance via email before this transition occurs. You will be provided a quality waxed lined box. When you return your empty box the following week you will be provided with another box full of fresh produce. Most vegetables will be harvested in the morning before your arrival to ensure the highest quality produce.

What Will You Receive?

Your boxed will be filled with seasonal non-GMO, pesticide free, organic herbs and vegetables. Luckily, we have the ability to offer earlier harvests due to the use of a large city owned greenhouse. Some of the items that may appear in your box are...
Mixed baby salad greens (kale, lettuce, etc..)
Bunching Onions
Tomatoes (many heirloom varieties)
Leafy Greens (spinach, lettuce, and field greens)
Mystery Herbs and Other Exciting Veggies!
