The mother of all potholes

Posted By on Thu, Feb 25, 2016 at 4:11 PM

Yesterday on the Indyblog, reporter Pam Zubeck highlighted the Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance's beef with the proposed five-year warranty bids the city has requested (in addition to two-year warranty bids) for repaving the streets soon

At the beginning of 2015, before the sales tax increase that voters passed in November funded the repaving, reporter J. Adrian Stanley had explained the city's budget woes and why our streets continue to crack

Now, I'm not adding much of anything to the conversation, other than to say that during a lunch hour prowling the east side of town for our Dine & Dash column, Griffin Swartzell and I found the mother of all potholes.

To be clear, it's actually inside of the Safeway shopping center off McLaughlin Road, in Falcon, so not the responsibility of the city to fix. But this photo illustrates our city-wide problem rather well nonetheless.

For perspective, Griffin is 5'9.

And for your further amusement, yes, Griffin did manage to hit this pothole as we turned the corner into this intersection, and my teeth clacked together with the "whump" of the car impacting.

Good times, Colorado Springs.
