10th Annual Colorado Springs , Intertribal Powwow, Aug. 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Norris-Penrose Event Center, 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road, free-$5, coloradospringspowwow.org.
Local nonprofit organization
One Nation Walking Together keeps busy. When not organizing their annual Native American film festival, giving presentations at local schools, or delivering resources and setting up sustainable food programs on 11 reservations in seven states, they also throw a huge regional get-together for Native Americans of all tribes. This annual traditional powwow draws crowds of thousands, and celebrates native culture with drums, dancers, food, art and craft vendors, and art demonstrations. Families can take advantage of kids’ activities, education and live animal exhibits. Non-Natives worried about intruding will be glad to know that they are absolutely welcome at the festivities, as this presents an opportunity to learn about the cultures and histories of Native American people. Just make sure you check out the powwow etiquette tab on
the website before attending, as this is first and foremost a sacred space.
