Air Force Academy's In The Stairwell has got talent

It's sometimes easy to forget that our local jazz community’s overall musicianship is greatly enhanced by the presence of musicians recruited by the Air Force Academy. Through the years, I’ve had the opportunity to witness the excellence of AFA artists like Brad Eastin, Wayne Wilkinson, Colin Trusedell’s quirky Quartet of Jazz Death, and the Springs Contemporary Jazz Big Band — as well as the final local appearance of Tokyo-bound musicians Ricky Sweum, Jason Crowe, and Henrique De Almeida.

And now, as of Tuesday night, the rest of the world got a glimpse of Colorado Springs' secret, thanks to the Air Force Academy’s In The Stairwell, whose a cappella version of One Direction’s “Drag Me Down” advanced them to the next round of America’s Got Talent. As I write this on early Wednesday morning, the video has already gone viral, closing in on half a million views. Have a look:
