Barbara Huber, a well-known war protester who was arrested here some years ago, ("Little mercy for nuns, News, Dec. 11, 2008) has died.

As she was quoted in that Independent story, "For years I've been very clear that war is futile at least, and immoral at most."

Here's a notice sent out by her friend, Bill Sulzman:
Long time peace activist and member of Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission, Sister of Charity Barbara Huber passed away at her Congregation’s Motherhouse in Cincinnati, OH, on Sunday, June 18th. We remember her best for the years she served as editor of Active for Justice, facilitated the Just Faith program, and founded the non-violent Sisters’ Witness Against War initiative which held annual demonstrations at Peterson Air Force Base from 2002 until 2011.

A memorial service will be held at the Bijou House Memorial Garden on Saturday, July 22nd at 10 AM. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by Bishop Richard Hanifen in the convent chapel at Mount Saint Francis, 7665 Assisi Heights, Colorado Springs, CO 80919 on Saturday, August 12th at 10 AM. Please join in the celebration of her life and the gift she has been in the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission’s quest for peace, justice, nonviolence and sustainability!

We encourage gifts in her memory be made to the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission, P.O. Box 2115, 80901. To RSVP, or for more information, contact Sister Dorothy at 719-210-4588 or Park in the Franciscan Retreat Center parking lot and proceed toward the main building; pass the Guest Dining Room and Kitchen to Saint Clare Convent.
