City releases interactive map of public works projects

On the street level, it doesn't take much driving to realize there's a lot going on in the city these days — road work, stormwater improvements, curb and gutter, bike paths.

Now, the city has put together an interactive map to let you see what's going on and where.

Here's what one view looks like:

The city issued this news release about the new feature:

The City of Colorado Springs Public Works Department launched today an interactive map to provide detailed information to residents about infrastructure projects currently underway in Colorado Springs.

“The map will allow residents to access information about all infrastructure projects taking place in 2017, including budget and scheduling information,” said Travis Easton, P.E., director of Public Works. “Citizens can see exactly where their resources are being put to work.”

Different layers and street views allow map users to see all the projects at once, or to view them individually. The map is overlaid on a satellite view of the city, and contains zoom and search features, so users can search by location. Operational layers for viewing include stormwater, transit, engineering, traffic engineering, and roadway operations and maintenance. Plus, several layers contain a drilled-down feature for more specific viewing.
Projects are flagged by colored highlights, and when a user clicks a project, a pop-up describes project details, including costs and time frames.

Although the map currently only shows 2017 projects, future projects will be added to the map closer to their start dates. To view the interactive public works map visit ColoradoSprings.gov/PublicWorks
